This is a very important topic for those of us battling Lyme Disease. I have found this to be one of the major hurdles I have had to jump and continue to treat. This disruption in our biochemistry can greatly interfere with our ability to detox heavy metals and to ultimately get well. Many in the Lyme community are familiar with the work of Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt. Dr. Klinghardt states this regarding KPU treatment :
“If KPU is treated first and the system is restored to normal levels (4-8 months), Borrelia, Bartonella-like organisms and Babesia respond to much milder interventions without significant Herxes or problems”
This excerpt was taken from Dr. Mercolas interview with Dr. Klinghardt which may be found at http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/08/04/Dr-Klinghardts-Treatment-of-Lyme-Disease.aspx.
Improving disturbed biochemistry and physiology: KPU/HPU
- Over 80 percent of our Lyme patients have developed HPU (hemo-pyrrol-lactam-uria). The term falsely used in most US literature is KPU (krypto-pyrrol-uria)
- HPU disarms the immune system by catastrophic depletion of zinc, manganese, arachidonic acid, histamin, taurine.
- These losses are hard to detect with any current technology (only bone and CNS biopsies are reliable.
In trying to locate the best source of information on this subject and how to treat it, I discovered this article by Mr. Scott Forsgren. Mr. Forsgren is also known as the Betterhealthguy, and has a blog with a wealth of valuable information for those with Lyme Disease. I know I have read it many times when looking for answers on how to battle this illness. Since we do not have Mr. Forsgren’s permission to reprint the article here, I am posting the link which I highly recommend anyone interested in this topic to read. http://betterhealthguy.com/joomla/images/stories/PDF/kpu_klinghardt_explore_18-6.pdf
I would like to add that this is NOT an expensive or difficult program to follow. From my personal experience, the most difficult aspect of this treatment is you will move metals and you need to be prepared for that. I cannot use this protocol daily still and have had to taper myself up. I literally get a metal taste in my mouth and brain fog. Binders are a good addition with this treatment regime. As with everything, you need to have your physician or practitioner made aware prior to starting this protocol. Moving heavy metals is serious business and should only be undertaken with the greatest of care and supervision from a licensed practitioner.
